Dartington Forest Garden Crowdfunder Aims to Buy 32-Year Agroforestry Site
southhams-today.co.ukThe Agroforestry Research Trust has launched a JustGiving campaign to buy the two-acre Forest Garden in Dartington, which has been run as a research and education site since 1994. The charity says the garden is carbon-negative, storing more carbon on the land than its activities produce, and it has hosted around 50,000 visitors and over 1,000 tours. As of publication, the appeal had raised more than £25,500 toward a £100,000 target. Forest gardens, also called food forests, combine trees, shrubs, perennials, and fungi to produce food while building resilience to pests, diseases, and extreme weather. The Dartington site is widely known as a reference for this approach, and its work has inspired similar projects globally. The purchase would secure the land after the charity was given notice to quit in 2025, following a petition that gathered 35,000 signatures. Donations are being collected at justgiving.com/campaign/savethefg.
