Dana Gas and Levidian Start Graphene Production in Sharjah, Plan 10 Ton Capacity by End 2026
egyptoil-gas.comDana Gas and Levidian have commissioned the first LOOP 20 graphene production unit at Sharjah Graphene Park in the UAE. The unit is producing commercial graphene at an annual capacity above one ton. It uses Levidian's microwave plasma technology to split methane into solid graphene and a hydrogen-rich gas. The project started with an investment of less than $1 million. The partners are now building LOOP 60 and LOOP 100 units in the UK, with total annual capacity expected to exceed 10 tons before the end of 2026. Total capital investment at that stage is around $2.5 million, and further expansion up to $50 million depends on signed offtake deals. Graphene can be used in batteries, tires, concrete, coatings, and polymers. The methane cracking process also produces hydrogen-rich gas that can be used as fuel or processed into hydrogen, which gives the project an emissions reduction angle, though the net climate impact depends on the gas source and how the hydrogen is used.
