Daito Corporation to build second electric tugboat for Tokyo Bay carbon neutral ports
cyprusshippingnews.comDaito Corporation, a subsidiary of K Line, is building a second electric tugboat for Tokyo Bay operations. The vessel will be a 260 gross ton class tug with a 4,400 PS motor and a new DC power distribution system. It is designed as a standard model for future electric tugboats and will use a condition monitoring system to optimize power supply and reduce fossil fuel use. Completion is scheduled for July 2028. The project is part of Japan's subsidized program for non-fossil energy in coastal shipping and supports the development of carbon neutral ports in Tokyo Bay. Daito's first electric tugboat is already under construction. The second vessel will have higher output and a shoreside charging system built by TOA CORPORATION. This is a concrete step toward decarbonizing port operations in one of the world's busiest shipping zones.
