Daikin launches CO2 heat pump for hot water in Australia: up to 76% savings on bills
architectureanddesign.com.auDaikin has launched a new CO2 hot water heat pump in Australia, using R744 natural refrigerant with a GWP of 1. The system claims a COP of 6.15, meaning it can heat water up to six times more efficiently than gas or electric resistance units. For a four-person household, annual running costs on off-peak tariffs are estimated at $200, compared to $820 for gas or $770 for electric. The unit is available in 250L and 315L tank sizes, operates from -10C to 43C, and runs at 38 dB(A). It qualifies for government rebates under AS/NZS 4234:2021. Initial rollout covers New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, and the ACT, with national expansion planned. The launch aligns with Victoria's new all-electric home standards taking effect in 2027.
