Dürr to Build Low-Carbon Paint Shop for Volkswagen Autoeuropa in Portugal
themachinemaker.comDürr has won a turnkey contract to design and build a new low-carbon automotive paint shop for Volkswagen Autoeuropa in Palmela, Portugal. The facility will use Dürr's EcoBell4 Pro rotary atomizers for efficient clear-coat application and EcoSmartCure electric drying technology to cut energy use and emissions. A unified digital control platform called DXQcontrol will connect the new shop with existing paint lines, improving operational transparency and process management. The project supports Volkswagen's next generation of vehicle production while aiming to lower paint consumption, reduce solvent use, and decrease carbon emissions. Dürr will oversee all phases from design to commissioning, with completion scheduled by mid-2027. This is a concrete example of industrial decarbonization through advanced coating and drying technologies in the automotive sector.
