CWG Signs 10-Year Solar PPA with ENGIE and British Solar Renewables for 50MW Knowl Green Farm
cwg.comCWG, the developer behind Canary Wharf, has signed a 10-year power purchase agreement with ENGIE and British Solar Renewables (BSR) to source renewable electricity from the 50MW Knowl Green solar farm. The deal is one of the largest corporate PPAs by a UK property owner and will cover roughly 40% of CWG's current electricity consumption, providing long-term price certainty and reducing exposure to volatile energy markets. The solar farm has full planning consent and grid connection, with expected output of 54GWh per year, enough to power around 12,500 homes. It is projected to avoid about 11,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. CWG already cut Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions from downstream leased assets by 69% since 2017, and this PPA supports further decarbonisation of a major commercial district. The structure allows BSR to retain ownership and build out its portfolio as an independent power producer, while ENGIE manages the supply and risk. This deal highlights how corporate offtake can back new renewable capacity, not just relabel existing generation.
