Coventry College solar project: 1,643 panels cut energy costs and carbon emissions
news.eonenergy.comCoventry College and Sidney Stringer Academy have installed 1,643 rooftop solar panels across four buildings in Hillfields. The 755 kWp system is expected to generate around 690 MWh per year and covers most of the sites' electricity needs during daylight hours. Between March and August 2026 the arrays generated 572 MWh, with about 475 MWh used on site. E.ON and Coventry City Council say that saved more than £95,000 in six months. The £825k project used £700k from the Mayoral Renewables Fund and £125k match funding from the college and academy trust. The installation also supports local installer training and gives electrical students hands-on exposure to solar technology. It is part of a wider Strategic Energy Partnership between E.ON and Coventry City Council to retrofit public buildings across the city.
