Cotonou Hosts 4th International Forum on Living Environment, Focus on Low-Carbon Transition and Climate Finance
beninwebtv.bjBenin's Minister of Living Environment and Transport, Georges Ale, opened the 4th International Forum on Living Environment in Cotonou on October 8, 2026. The three day event gathers policymakers, builders, researchers, and investors around the theme of accelerating the transition to carbon neutrality for African territories. Discussions center on reducing the construction sector's footprint, which accounts for 37% of global carbon dioxide emissions. Organizers say past recommendations are partially implemented, with 12 of 25 resolutions fully executed. New financing tools, including the Fic Investor Circle and Fic Project Connect, were launched to support sustainable projects. Architect Francis Kere's work was cited as an example of eco-responsible design using local materials. The forum aims to move away from energy intensive imported building models and toward practical standards for resilient, low-carbon cities.
