Cornwall beef farmer Ben Thomas wins UK Carbon Farmer of the Year 2026
southwestfarmer.co.ukBen Thomas, a beef farmer at Treveddoe Farm in Cornwall, has been named the UK Carbon Farmer of the Year 2026 by the Farm Carbon Toolkit. The award, now in its fourth year and sponsored by HSBC Agriculture UK, recognises farmers who cut greenhouse gas emissions and increase carbon storage on their land. Judges picked Thomas from three finalists for showing that an extensive, low-input beef system can produce quality food while aiming for a carbon negative result. The other finalists were Stephen and Catherine Temple from Copies Green Farm in Norfolk and Sam Done from Manor Farm in Lincolnshire. All three were judged on how they measure emissions, identify improvements, and build strategies to reduce climate impact. The award highlights a growing focus in UK agriculture on balancing food production with soil health and carbon sequestration.
