Cornell University is deploying a small-scale anaerobic biodigester to convert cow manure and food scraps into biogas. The system serves as a living lab to test the economic viability of waste-to-energy technology for smaller dairy farms that cannot afford industrial-scale plants. Beyond providing heat and energy for campus operations, the project supports research into carbon capture and the production of bio-oil and biochar. By capturing methane that would otherwise escape from manure pits, the system demonstrates a practical path for reducing agricultural emissions.
