CORE awards $1.4 million for local energy projects in Colorado through first half of 2026
postindependent.comThe Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE) awarded nearly $1.42 million in grants and rebates for over 130 energy efficiency and electrification projects across Pitkin, Eagle, and Garfield counties in Colorado during the first half of 2026. The projects are expected to save 3,785 metric tons of carbon emissions over their lifetimes, equivalent to avoiding the use of over 425,000 gallons of gasoline. The awards included 120 residential and 10 commercial projects, with more than $750,000 going to 95 residential projects in Garfield and Eagle counties. CORE directed 60% of incentive funding to Community Priority Participants, including income-qualified households and first responders, and supported 85 cold-climate heat pump installations. A notable commercial project is the Cantina Building renovation in Aspen, which will be 75% electrified through heat pumps and efficiency upgrades. CORE reduced residential rebate caps by 50% starting July 17 to manage demand sustainably. Projects in Basalt and Pitkin County still qualify for full rebates due to additional local funding. The results show strong demand for electrification and efficiency incentives in the region.
