Converting Methane to Methanol Using Cold Plasma Technology

By using high voltage pulses and a copper oxide catalyst, the system breaks strong carbon hydrogen bonds without the extreme heat and pressure required by traditional industrial methods. This electrified approach allows for smaller, distributed production units. This could enable operators to capture methane leaks and venting at remote oil and gas sites and convert them into transportable methanol, reducing the need for flaring and lowering overall greenhouse gas emissions.
