Researchers have developed a method to transform Martian regolith and carbon dioxide into nutrient rich fertilizer using cyanobacteria. By simulating Mars conditions, the team demonstrated that these bacteria can create edible plant biomass and methane fuel from local planetary resources. This process highlights a potential path for self sufficient food production in extreme environments. The study shows that small amounts of dried cyanobacteria can yield significant amounts of fresh plant material, reducing the need to transport supplies from Earth.
