Researchers at RMIT have developed a method to turn waste eucalyptus bark into a highly porous carbon material. This low-cost alternative can be used to filter polluted air and water, as well as capture carbon dioxide, reducing the need for energy-intensive production methods typically used for industrial filters. The study highlights the potential of using sustainable forestry by-products to create environmental solutions. Future research will focus on different eucalyptus species and collaboration with Indigenous communities to optimize the material for wastewater treatment and industrial gas filtration.
