Researchers at RMIT University have developed a simple one step process to turn eucalyptus bark, a common forestry waste product, into highly porous carbon. This material can trap pollutants in water and air, offering a sustainable alternative to complex, energy intensive carbon production methods. The study suggests this biomass carbon could be used for wastewater treatment, industrial gas filtration, and carbon dioxide capture. Because the feedstock comes from existing forestry operations, it avoids competing with food production and supports circular economy goals.
