Work has started on the Egni building at Bangor University's M-SParc science park on Anglesey. The new facility will add office, lab, and workshop space focused on low-carbon energy technologies. It includes an innovation hall and a materials analysis centre to support companies in the low-carbon sector. The project is expected to complete by summer 2027. Funding comes from multiple sources: GBP 3.94 million from the North Wales Growth Deal, GBP 2.5 million from Welsh Government, GBP 3 million from Anglesey Freeport, and GBP 580,000 from Bangor University. The expansion aims to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry, building on the work of the Nuclear Futures Institute. M-SParc's existing building is nearing full capacity, driving the need for this next phase.
