Work has started on the Egni building at Bangor University's M-SParc science park on Anglesey. The new facility will add office, lab, and workshop space focused on low-carbon energy technologies. Funding comes from multiple sources: GBP 3.94 million from the North Wales Growth Deal, GBP 2.5 million from Welsh Government, GBP 3 million from Anglesey Freeport, and GBP 580,000 from Bangor University. The expansion aims to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry, building on the work of the Nuclear Futures Institute. M-SParc's existing building is nearing full capacity, driving the need for this next phase.

Stacking funds is the hard part. The article says completion by summer 2027. That is a two year build for a fairly standard lab+office structure. If they hit that date with three funding sources, that would be faster than most UK public sector builds I have seen.

M-SParc opened in 2018 and is already at capacity. That is a decent sign of demand for low-carbon R&D space outside the southeast. The Egni building adds lab capacity which is usually the hardest space to find. If they fill it quickly it could pull more private investment into the area.
