Construction begins on Origins CCS Hub near Clive, Alberta, a major carbon capture and storage project
westcentralonline.comConstruction has started on the Origins Carbon Capture and Storage Hub near Clive, Alberta. The project, led by Enhance Energy, is expected to begin operating in January 2027 with initial capacity to permanently store up to 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. It will connect to Alberta's existing carbon dioxide pipeline network and is aimed at industrial facilities in the Alberta Industrial Heartland, including oil and gas, petrochemical, cement, and power generation sectors. Origins builds on Enhance Energy's existing Clive operation, which the company says has stored more than nine million tonnes of CO2 since 2020 and supported over $1 billion in investment across Alberta's carbon capture sector. Federal and provincial officials are backing the project, and the federal CCUS investment tax credit is part of the broader policy push. The project is designed to expand as demand for carbon storage grows.
