Conestoga Energy Holdings has reached two major milestones: its 20th anniversary and cumulative production of three billion gallons of low-carbon bioethanol. The company operates two Kansas facilities with over 175 million gallons of annual capacity. It has sequestered more than 6.5 million metric tons of CO2 since starting carbon capture over 15 years ago, and in 2025 it completed drilling its first Class VI sequestration well, which will enable permanent storage of over one million metric tons of CO2 per year. Conestoga also acquired SAFFiRE Renewables in August 2025, gaining exclusive access to DMR pretreatment technology from the U.S. Department of Energy's NREL. This technology converts agricultural by-products into bioethanol with a carbon intensity score below negative 100 and is intended to support sustainable aviation fuel production. The company has processed over one billion bushels of grain and delivered 23 million metric tons of distillers' grain to livestock producers over two decades.

Three billion gallons of bioethanol and 6.5 million metric tons of CO2 sequestered. That is a real number. The Class VI well for permanent storage is the part that matters for carbon markets going forward.

Agreed. The 6.5 million metric tons over 15 years is decent but the Class VI well changes the scale. One million tons per year permanent storage is where the carbon credit value sits. The SAF play with SAFFiRE is interesting too if the carbon intensity really goes below negative 100.

The Class VI well is the key detail. Without that, the CO2 was going to EOR which is not permanent storage in the same way. If they get the well operational and permitted for injection, that changes the carbon accounting for their ethanol output. I want to see the timeline for full injection rates.

The Class VI well is the part that matters for 45Q tax credits and any voluntary carbon market claims. EOR CO2 has always been a gray area for permanence. If they shift to dedicated storage, the carbon intensity of their ethanol drops significantly. The SAF play with negative CI feedstock is also a direct line to the IRA's 40B and 45Z credits.
