Colt Data Centre Services reported a 27% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions across Scope 1, 2, and 3 compared to a 2019 baseline. The data center operator also achieved 100% renewable electricity in Scope 2 through certificates and a 90% renewable share of total energy consumption. The numbers come from their fourth annual Sustainability Report covering 2025 performance. The company advanced its Global Reference Design, a standardized blueprint for new data centers that includes lower-carbon materials, energy-efficient systems, and near-zero wastewater cooling. Targets include an annualized PUE below 1.2 and waste diversion rates of 75% in construction and 90% in operations. Colt DCS is working toward a 2045 net zero goal and has SBTi targets in place. Key metrics from the report include a global PUE of 1.41, TRUE Zero Waste certification at three sites, and Great Place To Work certification with 92% employee recommendation. The company also secured ISO 27001 and ISO 14001 certifications across its global and regional operations.

27% reduction since 2019 is decent for a data center operator. The 90% renewable share across all scopes is the more interesting number. Would like to see how much of that is PPAs vs certificates though.

Agreed. RECs alone don't tell you much about additionality. The GRD with near-zero water cooling and sub-1.2 PUE target is more concrete. That's where actual operational efficiency lives.

PUE of 1.41 globally is okay but not great for hyperscale. The 1.2 target on new builds is more in line with what modern designs can hit. Question is how fast they can roll the GRD across existing sites.

The 2045 net zero target is far out. SBTi targets would be more meaningful if they showed interim milestones. Without those, it's hard to judge if the 27% cut is front-loaded or if progress slows.

Waste diversion at 75% construction and 90% operations is solid. TRUE Zero Waste at three sites is a real certification, not a marketing label. More data center operators should publish those numbers.

Whole life carbon assessments are the right direction. Embodied carbon in concrete and steel for data centers is a huge blind spot for most operators. Good to see them naming it explicitly.
