Colt DCS cuts emissions by 27% with renewable energy and efficient data center design

The company achieved 100% renewable electricity for Scope 2 and a 90% renewable share of total energy use. Its 2025 sustainability report highlights progress toward a 2045 net-zero target, backed by Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitments. To scale these efforts, Colt DCS advanced its Global Reference Design (GRD), a standardized blueprint for new data centers. The GRD includes energy-efficient systems, lower embodied carbon materials, and near-zero wastewater cooling technologies. The company targets an annualized PUE below 1.2 and waste diversion rates of 75% in construction and 90% in operations. Closed-loop liquid cooling and rainwater harvesting are also part of the design. The report underscores how data center operators are tackling emissions from both energy use and supply chains. Colt DCS uses whole-life carbon assessments to identify value-chain emissions and works with suppliers to lower them. As AI growth increases energy demand, standardized efficient designs like the GRD may become more common across the industry.
