Colorado's Green Business Network recognized 240 businesses for environmental projects that cut emissions, conserved water, and kept waste out of landfills. Participating companies avoided 40,000 metric tons of carbon emissions over the past year, roughly equal to the annual emissions from 8,500 gasoline-powered cars. Sweet Escape Pastries took the top 24-Karat Gold Award. The bakery cut total waste by 86% between 2021 and 2025, diverting 91 tons from landfills through composting, recycling, purchasing changes, and employee training. Other winners include GreenSheen Paint, which has diverted more than 12 million pounds of plastic since 2022 by recycling paint containers, and Aspire Colorado, which cut carbon emissions 89% using solar, battery storage, and electric appliances. The awards also highlight water savings. Semtech Colorado added a copper filtration system that reuses about 90% of process water, and the University of Northern Colorado replaced 3.4 acres of turf with lower-water landscaping, saving roughly 2 million gallons a year.
