Cold Lake council hears concerns over proposed CO2 pipeline and environmental review request
lakelandtoday.caA delegation from No CO2 Pipelines Alberta asked Cold Lake council to push for an environmental assessment of the proposed Pathways CO2 pipeline. The project would move captured carbon dioxide from oilsands facilities through more than 650 kilometres of pipeline to a storage site near Cold Lake. Residents argue the region's water, farmland and volunteer fire departments would bear the risk, and they question why no federal or provincial review has been triggered. The group also wants clearer numbers on how much CO2 the project would actually capture and at what cost. Pathways Alliance says the pipeline would be monitored around the clock and built to Canadian standards. The debate highlights the gap between project safety promises and the regulatory scrutiny that local communities expect for a project of this scale.
