Chilean energy company ColbĂșn is developing the Diego de Almagro Sur battery energy storage system (BESS), the first project of its kind authorized to sell carbon credits under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement. This approach allows the project to channel climate financing directly into large scale storage infrastructure. The initiative highlights a cooperative framework between Chile and Switzerland to align carbon accounting and transfer authorizations. By leveraging these credits, ColbĂșn aims to reduce curtailment and improve grid flexibility in the Atacama region while establishing a blueprint for future storage financing.
