A carbon dioxide gas leak occurred at Aurangabad Carbon Products Ltd. in Waluj MIDC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, on Tuesday morning during a transfer from a tanker carrying 15 tonnes of CO2. Dense white vapor engulfed the area, prompting an evacuation of employees and a response from the fire brigade. Firefighters found that ice had formed on the gas kit due to the extremely low temperature of the CO2, which initially made it difficult to stop the leak. After allowing some gas to dissipate, the ice melted and the leak was sealed safely. No injuries were reported. CO2 is non-flammable and non-explosive, but high concentrations can displace oxygen. The incident highlights the safety protocols needed at carbon handling facilities. The tanker involved was registered as MH-15 GV-0202. The rescue operation was led by multiple fire officers who brought the situation under control without escalation.
