CMC plans green waste to bio-briquette plant in Hyderabad under PPP model
deccanchronicle.comCyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) in Hyderabad is exploring a plant that converts green waste such as tree pruning and horticultural residue into bio-briquettes for use as industrial fuel. The municipal body's standing committee has approved moving ahead with an expression of interest (EOI), and the project may run through a public private partnership (PPP). CMC would provide land and municipal green waste, while a private partner would build and operate the facility and market the briquettes. The project is still at a preliminary stage. Additional Commissioner G. Venugopal Reddy said a feasibility study is underway and nothing is finalised yet. The city sees the plant as a circular economy initiative, with possible revenue from selling bio-briquettes and carbon credits. If it moves forward, the plant could reduce open dumping and burning of green waste in CMC limits while creating an alternative fuel source for industrial buyers.
