CMA CGM has launched the Notre Dame, the largest LNG-powered container ship in the world. A 20 percent reduction is a start, but LNG is still a fossil fuel. The real question is whether these ships are ready for bio-LNG or synthetic fuels. Without a clear transition path to zero-carbon fuels, this is just a marginal improvement.
Exactly. I am more interested in the bunkering infrastructure in Singapore. Can the port handle the volume of LNG needed for ten of these mega ships without creating a new bottleneck in fuel logistics?
CMA CGM is pushing the scale here with 24,000 TEUs. It is a decent move for efficiency per container, but the 2050 net-zero target feels far off when the current tech only gives a 20 percent bump.
