CMA CGM and DSV partner to cut 12,000 tonnes of shipping emissions with UCOME biofuels
foodbusinessmea.comCMA CGM and DSV have signed a deal that will use CMA CGM's ACT+ low-carbon shipping solution to cut 12,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions over two years. The reductions come from second-generation biofuels, mainly UCOME made from used cooking oil, which can be used in existing ship engines without retrofits. CMA CGM says the fuel pathway can reduce emissions by up to 83% compared to conventional bunker fuel. The agreement lets DSV offer verified emissions reductions to its customers without owning vessels or fuel infrastructure. It is part of DSV's net-zero by 2050 goal and builds on CMA CGM's LNG and methanol vessel investments. The trade-off is cost: low-carbon fuel carries a premium over standard fuel, and the deal defines how much of that premium DSV will cover. The practical value is near-term emissions cuts on the existing fleet while longer-term fuel options like methanol and ammonia scale up.
