CLP retro-commissioning (RCx) program helps Hong Kong businesses cut energy use and emissions
thestandard.com.hkCLP Power is pushing retro-commissioning (RCx) as a low-cost way for Hong Kong businesses to cut building energy use and carbon emissions. The utility hosted a symposium with government and industry officials, and has put more than HK$5 million into its RCx Charter Programme since 2021. So far it has trained around 900 practitioners from about 220 organizations and supported more than 200 projects, with cumulative electricity savings above 54 million kWh. Retro-commissioning means reviewing and fine-tuning existing building systems like HVAC and controls instead of replacing major equipment. That makes it a practical first step for owners who want lower bills without big capital outlay. CLP has also launched a free audit and subsidy program for participating organizations this year. Anyone tracking building decarbonization in Hong Kong should watch whether these savings persist and scale. The program lines up with the city's 2026 to 2030 plan for energy-saving retrofits, but long-term results will depend on trained operators continuing to tune systems after the projects end.
