Climeworks published a new report on the North American carbon dioxide removal market ahead of Climate Week NYC. It finds the region leads globally in both CDR volume and value, with software and tech companies the biggest buyers, followed by banking, finance, and entertainment. BECCS and reforestation have each sold more than 10 million tonnes since 2019. The report also highlights tightening standards, rising interest in CCP-approved credits, and stronger buyer attention to local co-benefits. It warns future removal supply may be more limited than buyers expect. On policy, it points to the US 45Q tax credit, California Cap and Invest, and Canada's CCUS investment tax credit as key frameworks shaping the market.
