New climate scenarios suggest the world is unlikely to stay below the 1.5 degree Celsius warming limit set in the Paris Agreement. While the most catastrophic high end projections have been lowered due to the rapid adoption of solar and wind energy, the best case scenarios have shifted upward. Scientists are now focusing on a narrower range of plausible futures. Current data indicates a likely path toward 3 degrees Celsius of warming by 2100, unless significant carbon removal technologies are deployed or emissions drop more sharply.
