Climate Impact Partners secures 1 million tonne carbon removal deal with GreenTrees reforestation project
morningstar.comClimate Impact Partners has arranged the purchase of one million tonnes of carbon removal credits from the GreenTrees Mississippi Alluvial Valley reforestation project on behalf of a Fortune Global 500 client. The project is the largest reforestation program in the US, having planted over 50 million trees across 140,000 acres of former agricultural land. It is the first ARR project to receive approval under the Integrity Council's Core Carbon Principles, using digital MRV technology for accurate measurement and reporting. This deal is structured as a staggered spot purchase that combines issued credits with newer vintages still in verification. The approach helps close the financial gap between verification and payments to landowners while reducing delivery risk for buyers. Since 2020, Climate Impact Partners has secured nearly 2.5 million tonnes of carbon removals from this project, which also supports habitat for over 325 bird species and engages nearly 600 landowners in low-income regions of the Mississippi Delta.
