A new study published in Nature indicates that rising global temperatures are leading to more frequent and larger hailstones. Warmer air holds more water vapor, creating stronger updrafts that allow hail to grow to destructive sizes, potentially increasing large hail events by up to 47% by the end of the century. These weather shifts pose significant financial risks to global infrastructure, including residential roofing and solar energy installations. Experts warn that current building standards do not account for this increase in severity, which could lead to higher insurance costs and more frequent infrastructure failure in prone regions.
