Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences are monitoring accelerating warming on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. New data suggests temperatures will rise significantly by 2032, leading to a projected 1.4 percent loss in glacier volume and altered river flows in the Himalayas. The study also highlights the importance of alpine grasslands as critical carbon sinks. By analyzing 24 monitoring sites, scientists are identifying how precipitation and vegetation types affect seasonal carbon uptake, which will inform China's ecological restoration policies in the 15th Five-Year Plan.
