Citigroup has committed $647.2 billion to sustainable finance since 2020, hitting 65% of its $1 trillion goal. In 2025 alone, the bank added $91.3 billion, with 62% going to projects outside North America. The financing covers environmental and social categories, so not all of it is climate-specific, but renewable energy and sustainable transportation are major areas. Citi also reports that its financed emissions avoidance is estimated at 8.8 million metric tons since 2020. On its own operations, Citi cut location-based Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 58% from a 2010 baseline, beating its 45% target. The bank has now set new 2030 goals for operational emissions and energy use. The report highlights a key distinction: financing climate projects and reducing the bank's own footprint are separate efforts, and both matter for the transition.
