Circularity Fuels says it completed the first end-to-end conversion of raw agricultural biogas into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The six-month pilot ran on methane captured from a California dairy farm manure digester, producing jet fuel that meets ASTM D7566 Annex A1 specs. The company's two-reactor system uses an electrified Ouro bi-reforming reactor and a compact Aion Fischer-Tropsch synthesis unit. Both are modular and skid-mounted, designed for the small scale at which biogas is typically produced. Circularity claims the system can reach commercial SAF at under $100,000 per barrel-per-day of installed capacity, roughly one-fifth the capital cost of SAF plants under construction in Europe. The pilot host dairy near Madera currently vents most of its biogas to the atmosphere. The system lets operators monetize that methane on-site without removing carbon dioxide, which could improve the economics of methane capture from agricultural waste.
