Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has launched the Advanced Bioenergy Fund II with a target of €1.5 billion to scale biomethane production across Europe. The fund focuses on industrial scale biogas plants using anaerobic digestion to convert agricultural and industrial waste into renewable natural gas. Targeting greenfield projects in Denmark, Ireland, Spain, Belgium, and Finland, the initiative aims to decarbonize heavy industry and maritime transport. The fund is supported by a €200 million commitment from the European Investment Fund under the REPowerEU framework.

The claim that it doesnt need new infrastructure is the big sell here since it uses existing gas grids. I wonder what the actual feedstock availability looks like in Finland and Ireland for industrial scale. Is there enough manure and waste to actually hit these targets?

The REPowerEU backing is the real driver. This is less about organic market demand and more about the EU wanting to kill dependence on imported gas. The incentives for domestic RNG are what make a 1.5 billion euro fund viable right now.

Industrial scale anaerobic digestion is expensive to build and maintain. I want to see the projected payback periods for these plants. If the feedstock costs spike, these margins can disappear quickly.
