CIMTOGO, the Togolese subsidiary of Heidelberg Materials, has rebranded its Super Rapide cement as ECOCIM, a lower-carbon alternative for the Togolese market. The company says the new formulation reduces the clinker content and increases mineral components like limestone, cutting CO2 emissions while maintaining the same strength and performance as the original 32.5 N cement. The product complies with Togolese Standard TGN 002 and was launched in Lomé on June 30, 2026. Cement production is one of the most carbon-intensive industrial processes, with clinker accounting for the majority of emissions. By lowering the clinker factor, CIMTOGO is following a path already taken by major global producers. The company did not disclose the specific emissions reduction percentage for ECOCIM, but the shift toward blended cements with higher supplementary cementitious materials is a well established decarbonization strategy. The move aligns with tightening climate targets in the building materials sector and growing demand for lower carbon construction inputs in West Africa.
