The Church of England is investing up to £190 million to reach its net zero carbon target by 2030. The first phase of the program has already deployed £27.5 million into demonstrator projects and capacity building, creating a network of 58 diocesan net zero roles to oversee the transition. Efforts are currently focused on reducing carbon pollution from heating, lighting, and powering church buildings. While the transition is a long term process, the Church Commissioners are leveraging additional government grants and local fundraising to accelerate the rollout of energy efficiency measures across its real estate portfolio.
