Chuncheon City in South Korea has been selected for a national project to turn 11 industrial complexes into energy independent zones. The plan includes building new renewable energy supply infrastructure, installing an integrated energy management system, and improving energy efficiency for tenant companies. The goal is to cut energy costs and help businesses meet carbon neutrality and RE100 requirements. The project is backed by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation. It covers complexes like Toegye, Namsan, and Dongchuncheon. Instead of just adding solar panels, the city is focusing on linking generation with a central management system to optimize how energy is produced and used across the whole site. This approach could serve as a model for other industrial zones in South Korea looking to decarbonize without disrupting operations.
