Scientists at Shenzhen University have developed a zero-carbon-emission direct coal fuel cell (ZC-DCFC). Unlike traditional plants that burn coal to create steam, this system uses electrochemical oxidation to generate power, capturing carbon dioxide and converting it into synthesis gas. The researchers claim the system reaches 40 percent efficiency and could potentially be used for in-situ power generation in deep coal mines. While promising, the technology requires further study to prove its scalability and real-world viability in the energy sector.
