Scientists from Henan Normal University and Qilu University of Technology have developed a method to produce sodium-ion battery components using old mobile phone batteries and wood industry waste. By combining extracted metals with lignin, they created a porous honeycomb structure that improves ion movement and electrical conductivity. In laboratory tests, the new anode material showed an initial capacity exceeding 1060 mAh/g and remained stable after 300 cycles. This approach reduces reliance on expensive raw materials and offers a more sustainable path for electric vehicle and grid energy storage production.
