China Uses AI to Convert Wastewater into Ammonia Fertilizer

Chinese researchers have developed a new method to turn nitrate-rich wastewater into ammonia for fertilizer using an AI-discovered dual-atom catalyst. This process aims to reduce water pollution from agricultural runoff and lower the high energy requirements associated with traditional industrial ammonia production. The new technique shows nearly three times the conversion efficiency of previous methods. By recovering resources from factory and farm waste, the technology helps prevent environmental dead zones and promotes a more circular approach to chemical manufacturing.
