China tests green hydrogen co-firing in coal boiler, cuts carbon emissions 50 percent

China Energy Investment Corp (CHN Energy) successfully tested 50 percent green hydrogen co-firing and 100 percent pure hydrogen combustion in a 40-megawatt coal-fired boiler. The trial used a self-developed hydrogen-coal mixed low-nitrogen burner and achieved a 50 percent reduction in both coal consumption and carbon emissions. This is a world-first breakthrough for zero-carbon fuel substitution in coal power, a sector that still provides baseline grid stability in China due to the country's reliance on coal.
