China has completed the first flight of a megawatt-class hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system. The engine uses hydrogen to generate electricity for electric motors, aiming to replace conventional jet fuel in regional and short-haul aviation to eliminate carbon emissions during flight. While the test flight is a technical milestone, commercial scaling depends on solving hydrogen storage and airport infrastructure challenges.
