China's environment minister Huang Runqiu told a climate meeting in Brussels that global cooperation on climate change will not stall because of the absence of certain countries, following the US withdrawal from the Paris Agreement in January. He described the low-carbon transition as irreversible and argued that the Iran war's disruption to oil and gas supplies strengthens the case for green energy. China, the EU, and Canada co-hosted the meeting despite trade tensions. While China remains the world's biggest CO2 emitter and coal user, it also leads in renewable energy development and electric vehicle sales. Huang emphasized that the multilateral process will continue and that the energy crisis should push countries to coordinate energy transition with energy security.
