China's top 10 eco-environmental science achievements for 2025: low-carbon energy and pollution control breakthroughs
chinadaily.com.cnChina released its top 10 ecological and environmental science achievements for 2025 on World Environment Day. The list, from the China Association for Science and Technology, covers climate-resilient strategies for wind and solar power, pollution control, ecosystem restoration, and thorium-based nuclear fuel. Other items include heat wave-ozone compound event prevention, urban wastewater nitrogen removal, and forest biodiversity conservation. The annual selection is in its seventh year. Wang Jinnan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said the achievements show progress in green low-carbon technology and ecological restoration. Wang Qian from the UN Environment Programme China Office noted the list represents China's ability to solve complex environmental problems and called for these technologies to go global faster. The list includes specific projects like soil acidity mitigation, hydroclimatic risks in energy systems, and grassland biodiversity monitoring using remote sensing. These are concrete research areas with direct applications for carbon markets, grid decarbonization, and emissions reduction policy.
