Tsinghua study basically says CO2 neutrality is not enough. They need to cut non-CO2 emissions by 60 percent to actually hit GHG neutrality by 2060. It is a much steeper climb than the previous targets suggested.

The 85 percent non-fossil fuel mix by 2050 is the part that matters. I wonder what the actual transmission plan is for that much wind and solar. The power sector peaking in 2055 leaves a very tight window for the grid to handle that load.

Interesting that they are calling for a 2035 medium term strategy. Right now there is a gap between the 2030 peak and the 2060 goal. Without a concrete 2035 policy framework, these long term numbers are just academic exercises.

They mention industrial processes and buildings. The real question is the cost of retrofitting those old industrial zones. DACCS is expensive and the payback period for industrial heat electrification is often too long without huge subsidies.
