Guangdong Liquid Sunshine is developing a commercial biomethanol plant in Tiandong County, Guangxi, using technology from Johnson Matthey. The first phase aims for an annual production capacity of 75,000 tonnes of biomethanol derived from waste biomass gasification. A planned second phase will integrate e-methanol production by combining captured carbon dioxide from the first plant with electrolytic hydrogen. This project aligns with China's 2026 to 2030 strategic plan to scale up green fuels for the shipping industry and reduce reliance on imported oil.
