China's 2030 Clean Energy Plan: Non-Fossil Fuels to Hit 25% of Energy Mix, Wind and Solar to Dominate Installed Capacity

China has released a new energy plan covering 2026 to 2030 that aims to build a clean, low-carbon, and secure energy system. The plan sets targets for non-fossil energy to reach 25% of total consumption and for wind and solar to account for over 50% of installed power generation capacity by 2030. Non-fossil sources are also expected to generate half of the country's electricity, becoming the main power source. The plan from China's National Development and Reform Commission and National Energy Administration also calls for coal and oil consumption to peak by 2030, a unified national electricity market, and greater self-reliance in energy technology. China has built the world's largest renewable energy system and aims to peak carbon emissions before 2030 and reach carbon neutrality by 2060. The targets are ambitious but rely on continued rapid deployment of wind, solar, and grid infrastructure.
