China reports progress on racing fuel, shale oil extraction, and carbon fiber production

A domestically developed 103-RON racing gasoline was used at the 2026 Taklimakan Rally, marking the first industrial-scale deployment of high-octane fuel for motorsport. In the Shengli oilfield, improved drilling and fracturing techniques boosted shale oil output by 15% year on year, with 12 new high-yield wells adding 15,000 tonnes in the first half of 2026. Separately, Shanghai Petrochemical has started mass production of high-strength small-tow carbon fiber, a material used in aerospace, aviation, and mobility. These developments reflect China's push to secure supply chains for high-performance fuels, domestic oil recovery, and advanced materials that support lighter, more efficient vehicles and aircraft.
